RokDoc Reservoir Monitoring - Sim-to-seis and 4D modelling

This e-course is for QI specialists, and covers the functionality accessed from the Reservoir Monitoring add-on of the RokDoc Reservoir Characterization base module.

It is recommended that students have completed the RokDoc Rock Physics e-course, and preferably the Reservoir Characterization e-course before undertaking this e-course.

This e-course aims to impart to the user a thorough understanding of how to use the Reservoir Monitoring functionality within RokDoc. The RokDoc Reservoir Monitoring add-on provides the tools, functionality and workflows needed for the integration of geological, geophysical and reservoir engineering data to perform 3D and 4D analyses. Some level of prior experience and understanding of the RokDoc Rock Physics module is assumed.

The e-course concentrates on the sim-to-seis forward modelling aspect of the workflow, but 4D inversion and seis-to-sim techniques are discussed.

To complete this e-course, students will require access to the following RokDoc software: Platform, Rock Physics and Reservoir Characterization Modules, and Reservoir Monitoring Add-On.

Curate: Admin Tool - Load, standardise & QC subsurface data in Curate (Coming Soon)

The Admin Tool is the data loading and management centre for Curate, allowing data managers to load, standardise and QC to create a database that is easy to navigate for end users.

This e-course teaches students how to create and manage Admin Tool projects, add wells both individually and in batch, and load Data from multiple sources; from simple .las files, to complex Excel workbooks, thin sections, and core photos.

This e-course is intended for use by Data Managers at a beginner and intermediate level and is an essential starting place for loading and managing data in Curate.

iPoint: Viz Point - Create multi-scale visualizations to bring wellbore data together

The Viz Point Module allows students to visualize all wellbore data simultaneously, enabling a holistic understanding of the responses.

This e-course teaches students how to build complex layouts, including electrical logs, core sample data, log and core images and depth-linked cross plots, as well as tips and tricks on getting the most out of visualizations.

It is intended for beginner and intermediate iPoint users and is a good starting place for those unfamiliar with the iPoint system. Geoscientists will benefit most from the workflows discussed during this Viz Point e-course, however Data Managers will also benefit from an understanding of this module, as it is highly useful in some aspects of data quality control.

To complete this e-course, students will require access to iPoint 2020.1 or later, and permissions to open the iPoint software. This e-course uses data from an anonymised dataset “Project A” – if this is not present in your copy of iPoint, please contact us to receive the appropriate version of this data.

iPoint: Admin Tool - Load, standardise & QC well data from a wide range of data inputs

Such data inputs include well data, LAS files and information from spreadsheets through to core and sample photos.

The Admin Tool is iPoint’s data loading and management centre, allowing data managers to load wellbore data, standardize that data and create a database that is easy to navigate for end users.

This e-course teaches students how to create and manage projects, add wells both individually and in batch, and load Data from multiple sources; from simple .las files, to complex excel workbooks, thin sections, and core photos.

This e-course is intended for use by Data Managers at a beginner and intermediate level and is an essential starting place for loading and managing data in iPoint. Though not essential, it is recommended that Data Managers complete the iPoint: iMine and iPoint: Viz Point courses first, as these are highly useful in some aspects of Data Quality Control.

To complete this e-course, students will require access to iPoint 2020.1 or later, and permissions to open the iPoint and Admin software. Anonymised Data, to be loaded in each e-learning exercise, is provided with this e-course. This e-course also uses data from an anonymised dataset “Project A” – if this is not present in your copy of iPoint, please contact us to receive the appropriate version of this data.

RokDoc Rock Physics - A thorough overview, with theory, of the Rock Physics module

This e-course is intended for new and intermediate RokDoc users who require an introduction to the RokDoc Rock Physics module.

It is highly recommended that all students complete this e-course first before doing any other e-courses. The RokDoc Rock Physics module forms the basis of RokDoc, and understanding how this module works, and the theories it is based on will enable a better understanding of all the other RokDoc e-courses, and the workings of RokDoc in general.

Students will follow a series of high-quality videos to guide them through a typical RokDoc workflow, comprising of data loading and QC, predicting missing data with calibrated rock physics models, blocky modelling, log-based rock physics analysis and 2D forward modelling. This e-course also covers Gassmann dry rock modelling, elastic log analysis, cross-plotting and well ties. Further analysis is then performed in RokDoc 2D to determine the effects of seismic tuning, fluid substitutions, porosity perturbation and noise.

To complete this e-course, students will require access to the following RokDoc software: Platform and Rock Physics Module.

RokDoc Anisotropy - Capture, correct & leverage the effect of elastic anisotropy

The RokDoc Anisotropy e-course focuses on predicting, correcting and exploiting the effects of layering and fracturing on the elastic properties of rocks.

The e-course begins with an overview of the theory and its applications in rock physics workflows, followed by several exercises, covering blocky modelling, well log and 2D applications, and Thomsen Parameter estimation from multiple wells.

It covers the functionality accessed from the Anisotropy add-on for the RokDoc Rock Physics base module.

To complete this e-course, students will require access to the following RokDoc software: Platform, Rock Physics Module and Anisotropy Add-On.

RokDoc VSP - VSP processing & interpretation in RokDoc

The VSP e-course focuses on VSP processing and interpretation, the derivation of Thomsen parameters, and fracture analysis. The workflows include a corridor stack, multi-component walk-away VSP analysis, and the identification and interpretation of shear-wave splitting in a fractured interval.

This e-course covers the functionality accessed from the VSP add-on for the RokDoc Rock Physics base module.

To complete this e-course, students will require access to the following RokDoc software: Platform, Rock Physics Module and VSP Add-On.

RokDoc Reservoir Characterization - Rock Physics Model Templates & reservoir characterization

The RokDoc Reservoir Characterization e-course is aimed at intermediate RokDoc users who require an introduction to Rock Physics Model Templates and the Reservoir Characterization module within RokDoc.

This e-course takes students through a series of workflows to illustrate the predictive power of rock physics models, before progressing onto RokDoc Reservoir Characterization to learn about modelling lithologies and fluids, manipulating seismic inversion volumes, creating elastic and geological property volumes and exporting to SEG-Y.

To complete this e-course, students will require access to the following RokDoc software: Platform, Rock Physics and Reservoir Characterization Modules.

RokDoc SDC & Inversion - Estimate wavelets, condition & invert seismic to impedances

This e-course is for inversion specialists, and covers the functionality accessed from the Seismic Inversion add-on of the RokDoc Reservoir Characterization base module (Seismic Inversion Add-On).

It is recommended that students have completed either the onsite RokDoc Rock Physics course or the RokDoc Rock Physics e-course, before doing this e-course.

It focuses on the estimation of seismic wavelets, conditioning partial angle stack seismic data, and inverting the data to impedance volumes.

Beginning with an introduction to the fundamentals of inversion theory, the e-course then progresses through a series of practical workflows, with the aim of generating robust inversion products for reservoir characterization studies.

The e-course concentrates on simultaneous inversion, but other techniques, including extended elastic impedance and coloured inversion, are also explored.

To complete this e-course, students will require access to the following RokDoc software: Platform, Rock Physics and Reservoir Characterization Modules, and Seismic Inversion Add-On.

RokDoc Ji-Fi - Best in class facies-based seismic inversion

RokDoc Ji-Fi (Joint Impedance & Facies Inversion) is Ikon Science’s most innovative inversion technology.

The RokDoc Ji-Fi e-course is intended for advanced RokDoc 3D users, so it is highly recommended that the RokDoc Rock Physics e-course is completed first. Also, e-learners will greatly benefit from having completed the RokDoc Reservoir Characterization e-course as well.

This e-course takes students through a detailed workflow; starting from the generation of facies logs, through to running the inversion and QC of the results, so students fully cover all its extensive capabilities. As well as learning how to drive the software, all relevant underlying principles are discussed, and results reviewed.

To complete this e-course, students will require access to RokDoc 2020.1 or later, and to the following RokDoc software: Platform, Reservoir Characterization Module and RokDoc Ji-Fi Add-On.

RokDoc GeoPressure - Application of pressure prediction, with introductory theory

The RokDoc GeoPressure e-course covers practical applications of the Pressure Prediction base module and the Seismic Pressure Calculator add-on. While this is not intended to be an in-depth training on pressures and overpressures in the subsurface, some introductory theory is given to familiarize students with basic concepts and terminology.

This e-course starts with data loading, pressure-depth plots, fluid gradient analysis and integration with geology. It progresses to 1D shale pressure prediction, encompassing overburden stress, normal compaction trends, pore pressure and fracture gradient. The final part covers seismic velocity-based pressure prediction, including velocity QC and calibration, pressure volume calculation, mapping, and extractions at planned wells.

The e-course is intended for beginner and intermediate RokDoc users. Geologists, Geophysicists, Petrophysicists and Geomechanics Engineers will benefit from the workflows discussed in this e-course.

To complete this e-course, students will require access to the following RokDoc software: Platform, Pressure Prediction Module and Seismic Pressure Calculator Add-On.

RokDoc GeoMechanics - Build & calibrate geomechanical models

The RokDoc GeoMechanics e-course aims to provide an operational knowledge of the RokDoc Pressure and Stress software module and other relevant RokDoc functionality used in the construction of geomechanical models.

The e-course is divided into several logically ordered sections to guide students through the basics of building and calibrating geomechanical models.

It includes elements of data QC and conditioning, Gassmann fluid substitution, the processing and interpretation of image logs, calculation of a simple pore pressure model, calibration of an offset well to develop a geomechanics model, and the utilization and visualization of geomechanical models for well planning in 1D, 2D and 3D.

The e-course is intended for beginners and intermediate RokDoc users. Geologists, Geophysicists, Petrophysicists, Geomechanics Engineers, and Drilling Engineers will benefit from the workflows discussed in this e-course.

To complete this e-course, students will require access to the following RokDoc software: Platform, Rock Physics, Pressure Prediction Module, Seismic Pressure Calculator and GeoMechanics Add-Ons.

iPoint: iMine - Take control of data with iMine

The iMine module enables anything from a high-level overview to a full examination of data.

This e-course will take students through the various methods of searching for and interrogating data, including quality assurances, side by side comparisons, statistics, charts, and map views.

This e-course is intended for beginner and intermediate iPoint users and is a good starting point for those unfamiliar with the iPoint system. Geoscientists and Data Managers will both benefit from the workflows discussed during this iMine course.

To complete this e-course, students will require access to iPoint 2020.1 or later, and permissions to open the iPoint software. This e-course uses data from an anonymised dataset “Project A” – if this is not present in your copy of iPoint, please contact us to receive the appropriate version of this data.

Ikon Science does not provide RokDoc or iPoint licenses as part of the e-learning package. Users are expected to have access to RokDoc or iPoint to follow e-learning – the licenses needed for each e-course are stated above. Also, please review our general T&Cs below for more info.

  • You need to access to our currently supported versions of RokDoc or iPoint to register for the Ikon Science e-learning program. Please click to check our Support page for the list of currently supported versions.
  • When approved, an individual user gets free e-learning access for 60** days (date starting from when the Ikon Science e-learning welcome email is sent) or lasting the length of the software evaluation period.
  • Ikon Science e-learning log on details are only for the use of the individual who has applied and been given e-learning access - they cannot be shared.
  • As standard, a maximum of five users (per client site) can be active on the Ikon Science e-learning platform at any one time.
