Recognizing The Importance of Quantifying and Correcting For Total Organic Carbon (TOC) To Reduce Uncertainty in Pore Pressure Prediction

Variation in TOC leads to non-unique solutions for the vertical effective stress as a function of density. Total Organic Carbon (TOC) tends to soften/slow the elastic response leading to elevated pore pressure predictions that may not be valid. A rock physics model linking TOC to bulk density is used to generate a corrected bulk density log. The final results are more realistic pore pressure prediction magnitudes.
