RokDoc GeoMechanics

RokDoc GeoMechanics adds geomechanical model building to rock physics and quantitative interpretation package. Understanding the stress state in the earth is of vital importance for well plan design, completions optimisation, cap rock integrity, and wellbore stability. Finding a prospect is only part of the battle; safely drilling the well and optimising production is the end goal. RokDoc GeoMechanics makes it easier to predict how a well is going to behave before, during, and after production.

Foundation – Use the power of RokDoc to your advantage 

RokDoc GeoMechanics is seamlessly integrated into the base RokDoc platform. Calibrate fluid and mineral properties to any available production or core measurements, so that your model inputs are verified and reliable. Compare wireline logs, image logs, lab measurements and seismic data all in one software package.

Geomechanical modelling – integration of geomechanics with rock physics and geopressure

Regional stresses drive local behaviour, however the strain incurred by the rocks is dependent on many variables such as rock strength, pore pressure, Poisson’s ratio, and Young’s modulus. RokDoc has excellent tools for data QC and elastic property analysis, plus easy-to-use embedded pore pressure prediction software. Much of this analysis is already being performed in RokDoc for quantitative interpretation work. Why would you analyse elastic properties anywhere else?

RokDoc fully integrates quantitative interpretation, geopressure and geomechanics. Need to repair data or run a fluid substitution to compare log measurements with laboratory values? Use the RokDoc cross-plot to analyse data and remove anomalous or bad measurements.

Calculations and calibrations – robust, reliable, and flexible equations

Calculating inputs for geomechanical models is easy in RokDoc GeoMechanics. Equations are embedded from industry-standard publications allowing you to quickly build many different models and calibrate them to your study area.  Calibrate dynamic log measurements to static laboratory measurements with an intuitive and user-friendly calibration module.

Offset well planning – RokDoc-2D and RokDoc-3D

RokDoc-2D allows you to easily extrapolate data to an offset well location when no seismic data are available. Shift values up and down, extend trends deeper to view expected stress changes, vary layer thicknesses or even eliminate lithologies completely. RokDoc-2D is simple yet flexible and powerful, and can take your well planning to the next level.

If you have seismic data and/or inversion volumes, add geomechanics to your RokDoc-3D models. Use established rock property relationships per facies to extend data away from wells. Can stress or fracture changes be observed in elastic space? Integrate mechanical rock properties into your facies analysis to create geomechanical inversion outputs. Calibrated models can be applied to offset wells, making your pore pressure and geomechanical models consistent with your geophysical models.

RokDoc GeoMechanics allows analysis to be performed for all depths to create a profile of predicted behaviour through the entire well section. Stereonets are also available for understanding the behaviour of rocks at one depth, given various wellbore orientations or fracture plane orientations. Slider bars allow easy property variations, so that different “what-if” scenarios can be created

Even with a robust calibrated model, there is uncertainty in many calculations. What is going to happen when rock strength changes? Is your SHmax too high? What if the pore pressure is lower than we expected? With fast log calculation, you can create multiple pressure vs. depth plots, then utilize flexible QC plots to understand what will happen with small variations in rock properties. RokDoc GeoMechanics takes the same methodology we use in the base RokDoc platform: visualise your problem from all different perspectives to gain a clear understanding of rock behaviour.
