RokDoc PressureView, GeoPressure Calculators & Seismic Pressure Calculator - 3 Days Course

May 22 - 24, 2023

Course Outline:

3 Day Course: This course is designed to be an introduction to PressureView, GeoPressure Calculator and Fracture Pressure Calculator modules within RokDoc. This course also introduces users to the features and functionality of Seismic Pressure Calculator.

There are three parts to this training course.

Show Course Outline
Part 1
The first part is designed to be an introduction to PressureView, which is now integrated in RokDoc, RokDoc PressureView. No previous experience of using PressureView or RokDoc is required, and it is suitable for new users of RokDoc PressureView, or users of the previous standalone version of PressureView. It is not intended to be an in-depth training course on pressure and overpressure in the subsurface, although a brief introduction to this topic will be given to familiarise people with basic concepts and terminology.
  • Gain a basic understanding of pressure in the sub-surface and examples of RokDoc-PressureView in use
  • Opening a project in RokDoc and using a Reference Project File
  • Creation of well lists
  • Gain familiarity with the basics of RokDoc-PressureView
  • Creation of Single- and Multi-well plots
  • Data interrogation, identification of fluid gradients and contacts
  • Use on-screen annotation, other functions and exporting plots
  • Using different plot types
  • Introduction to creating and editing wells, Pressure Sets and
  • Discrete Value Sets
  • PVD converter
  • Creating Reference Projects and setting an administrator
Part 2
Introduces the GeoPressure Calculator (GPC) and Fracture Pressure Calculator modules (FPC) within RokDoc. It discusses some of the basic concepts of overburden calculation, pore pressure prediction and fracture pressure prediction in shales, and outlines the background theory of predicting pore pressure in shales and then proceeds to demonstrate these using these calculators' applications. Although no previous experience of using RokDoc is required, it is advantageous.
Theory: Pore pressure prediction in shales
  • Normal Compaction Trend
  • Disequilibrium Compaction
  • The overburden (Lithostatic gradient)
  • Pore pressure prediction
  • Eaton's Ratio Method
  • Equivalent Depth Method
  • Bowers Velocity/Effective Method
  • Fracture Pressure calculations
Introduction to GPC
  • Overburden profile (Lithostatic Gradient)
  • Normal Compaction Trend
  • Pore Pressure Prediction
  • Equivalent Depth method
  • Eaton Ratio Method
  • Bowers Velocity/Effective Stress Method
Introduction to FPC
  • Matthews and Kelly (Stress Ratio Trend)
  • Eaton (Poissons Ratio Trend)
  • Daines
  • Breckels and Van Eekelen
  • Ikon GeoPressure Pore Pressure Stress Coupling
Part 3
Finally, attendees are introduced to the features and functionality of Seismic Pressure Calculator (SPC). A knowledge of the theory of pore pressure prediction and experience in using PressureView and GeoPressure calculators software is advantageous but not essential. It will not cover processing seismic velocity data for pressure prediction but will look at some of the problems associated with using seismic data for pressure prediction. Pore pressure prediction theory (brief outline) Pore pressure prediction from seismic theory (brief outline) Building a geological model of pore pressure from offset well data (brief outline) Defining a lithostatic trend from offset well data Defining a Normal Compaction Trend from offset well data Loading the seismic volume Loading horizon data Assessing the offset well and seismic data
