Successful exploitation of unconventional shale reservoirs depend on the integration of multi-disciplines between geoscientists and engineers. Here, we applied an integrated approach for Green River and Irati shales characterization. Understanding of micro-structure is achieved through SEM/Micro-CT scan methods. Porosity and grain densities are measured in the lab. Rock-eval pyrolysis is used to determine the type and current level of maturity of kerogen. Ultrasonic measurements confirm that the strong elastic anisotropy in source rocks is caused by presence and morphology of organic matter.
