Ikon Science's Iestyn Russell-Hughes will be presenting "Machine Learning and Learning from Machines" at the London Petrophysical Society's one day seminar, Data Science in Petrophysics, on Thursday, December 5th.
Introduction - Deep learning has demonstrated tremendous success in a variety of application domains in the past few years, and with some new modalities of applications it continues to open new opportunities. In this example, we will demonstrate learnings from use cases such as facies classification, petrophysical log prediction. These applications are essential parts of various geoscience workflows and machine learning approaches can certainly save time. While there is a lot of enthusiasm in implementing machine learning for various geoscience applications, there is also skepticism of “black box” applications and how to quality control (QC) the outcomes.
