Rock Physics relationships and the seismic behaviour of rocks Rock Physics relationships and the seismic behaviour of rocks More than Rock Physics: Roknowledge - Moray Firth UKCS

Roknowledge - Moray Firth UKCS is a rock physics interpretation study and database to provide a visual look-up reference of rock physics relationships and the seismic behaviour of rocks. With Roknowledge, interpreters can concentrate on seismic modelling rather than log inconsistencies, thereby saving investment time and cost.

Roknowledge provides:

  • Solutions and correlations for hydrocarbon and brine seismic signatures over potential and established plays.
  • Analysis of rock and fluid properties from 50 wells, covering major plays, over half of which include measured shear data.
  • Depth trend analysis to evaluate and calibrate the AVO response of reservoirs at different depths.
  • Multi-well correlations, drawn from single well interpretations of rock properties, are established from carefully analysed core and wireline velocity logs, petrophysical, in-situ pressure and reservoir data.

Roknowledge is a joint venture combining high quality conditioned well information provided by IHS, with the leading rock physics expertise of Ikon Science. Developed to reduce exploration and drilling uncertainty, this tool addresses the growing need for a convenient and interactive resource of quantitative interpretation solutions for the modern seismic interpreter, petrophysicist, geologist and reservoir geophysicist.

Each well has a series of well log images and cross-plots to illustrate rock acoustic interpretations, a set of stratigraphic correlation panels and maps to show regional trends and a basis for interpolation in areas of low/no well data.

Depth trend example

  • Data trends, equations, relationships, averages, pressure and temperature are provided with interpretations and correlations from existing wells.
  • The content of Roknowledge is drawn from 50 wells over 28 fields within the Moray Firth and from adjacent areas in the North Sea UKCS, covering 3 sub-basins.
  • Full interpretations are provided for 108 reservoir intervals from the principle stratigraphic sub-divisions - Triassic to Eocene.

Roknowledge offers the following key deliverables:

  • Log QC and data conditioning.
  • Analysis and interpretation based on single well analysis, revealing relationships between petro-acoustic properties for in-situ and fluid substituted cases (brine, oil and gas), including P-wave velocity, shear velocity, Density, Acoustic Impedance, Elastic Impedance, Lambda Rho, Mu Rho and Poisson’s Ratio.
  • AVO analysis provides blocky and 1D inversions for elastic properties provided in order to analyse the fluid response.
  • Well correlations based on principal stratigraphic subdivisions from the Triassic to Eocene, across all 3 sub-basins.

1D AVO analysis of Cenozoic section for single well

  • Vp-Vs equations for Sandstone, Shales and Chalk for principal stratigraphic subdivisions across all 3 sub-basins.
  • Depth relationships (Vp-depth, Vs-depth and Rho-depth) for brine saturated cases in all 3 sub-basins.
  • All fluid and mineral data for every reservoir interval analysed.
  • LAS data and a .rok file available, with complete interpretation and project notes for use with RokDoc software.
