Accurate prediction of economic rock and fluid properties starts with a thorough understanding of the rocks.
This has led to companies adopting rock physics to make sense of the mix of the multidimensional seismic
datasets (3D AVO, 4-C, 4-D and anisotropy), well logs, EM methods and other information.
The new RokDoc plug-in for Schlumberger Petrel* software, brings the power of predictive rock physics into the modern Quantitative Interpretation workflow.
Launch RokDoc's wavelet extraction tool, developed in conjunction with Roy White, within your Petrel* project. RokDoc will thus will ensure you have the appropriate wavelet, with the correct time-shift, needed to perform Modelling While Picking.
RokDoc, used in over 40 oil companies worldwide including all the supermajors, has become an essential part of exploration and development workflows.
Launched from Petrel* the plug-in opens the specific RokDoc functionality required.
The plug-in includes:
- Advanced wavelet extraction
- Vs prediction
- Fully interactive 2D modelling: integrating both pre- and poststack seismic, multiple well logs, elastic data and anisotropy
Ensuring the RokDoc technology is available to every interpreter, means that rock physics can be fully integrated into the interpretation workflow.
Data selected from Petrel* (top) is used to automatically populate the RokDoc-2D model (left).
NEW features!
- Once data has been transferred from Petrel to RokDoc the user can access the complete suite of RokDoc functionality should they choose.
- Volume Fraction Generator plug-in
- Log Rho prediction plug-in
- Log Vp prediction plug-in
- Saturation Generation plugin
- Depth/Time conversions
- Access the RokDoc well viewer from Petrel*
- Export wells from Petrel* in .rok format
The plug-in provides a bridge between the seismic quantitative interpretation community, who are mostly exploration focussed, and the Petrel* world community, who tend to be geological and production asset focussed, with obvious mutual benefits.
A .rok file is automatically created containing the complete results from the worfklow. Files can be exchanged between colleagues for purposes of QC or for assessment of additional work.
It is extremely fast and simple to test different scenarios, such as different fluid substitutions, porosity, anisotropy and pressure changes. It is possible to see how these changes affect the seismic response, until there is a match with the recorded seismic.
Create your interpretation in Petrel* (a). Selected events, seismic volumes and wells are used to create a model in RokDoc-2D (b). When you re-pick an event in Petrel* (c), these new picks will automatically be sent to RokDoc-2D, which immediately generates a new synthetic seismic section (d).
The RokDoc plug-in represents a major step forward in reducing risks for exploration and development projects. For the first time it allows us to build a combined and validated geological property model in Petrel* by checking it against the observed geophysical property model in RokDoc.
It makes it easy to use rock physics in the interpretation workflow, enabling seismic interpretation decisions to be based on realistic rock properties.
The result - interactive interpretation; as the user picks horizons in Petrel*, RokDoc listens and updates its events, and recalculates the synthetic. Ikon Science calls this new capability Modelling While Picking.
