Martyn founded Ikon Science in 2001. He has over 30 years experience in new ventures and technology application in the oil and gas industry, working in International Geoscience and commercial roles for GSI Inc, Candecca Resources plc, Hardy Oil and Gas, Jebco Inc, Acre Oil plc and BG Plc. Prior to IKON Science, he was Managing Director of IKODA Ltd and built the company from a start up to one of the largest independent upstream consulting groups dealing with some of the highest profile upstream deals over the past decade including the North Caspian PSA negotiations and awards to the OKIOC consortium and related deals including a half billion dollar disposal of these assets.
He has a long term interest in the public role of Geoscience and has provided this expertise on the board of a number of Industry R&D "think tanks" such as the Petroleum Science and Technology institute (PSTI) and Centre for Marine and Petroleum Technology (CMPT). He is currently a member of the CeREES Geo-Energy board of Durham University. He has been a founding shareholder or director of a number of oil companies including the Africa focused AIM listed Fusion Oil and Gas plc, Virgo Energy plc a private oil and gas explorer sold to Encore oil plc in 2006 and Ophir Energy Plc.
Martyn earned an Honours degree in Geology from Durham University UK and a post graduate qualification in Geophysics from Queen Mary College University of London. He is an active member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, Institute of Petroleum, and the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain.
After graduating from Manchester University with a Joint Honours degree in Physics & Geology Paul joined the Oil & Gas business in a technical role spending several years working both in the UK and Libya for a geophysical contractor (SSL) before joining the Sales and Marketing team. Paul has always retained his strong technical background and in addition to being in a sales role for many years has been able to provide technical support and training courses over the years when the need arose.
Paul worked for most of the key players in the software business, after leaving SSL he became General Manager of Advance Geophysical responsible for their EAME business and then moved to Dubai with Landmark to run their Africa & Middle East region. Returning to the UK Paul worked for CogniSeis, Paradigm, VoxelVision and Schlumberger before joining Ikon Science in November 2005. Paul was appointed to the Ikon board in 2006 and is Director of Sales & Software Development for Ikon Science.
Steve has over 25 years experience in the oil and gas services and technology development business. He started his career with Western Geophysical, London working on various marine seismic crews. He joined Wimpol (UK) and then Comap in the U.S, involved in various geoscience consulting projects and eventually headed up Comap’s Western hemisphere operations.
In 1991 he joined Cogniseis Development Inc, where he spent several years running sales, support and operations. Following the takeover of Cogniseis by Paradigm in 1997, he headed up Paradigm’s Western Hemisphere operation, before leaving to join start-up visualisation technology company, Continuum Resources in Houston. In 2001 he re-joined Paradigm as Senior Vice President/Managing Director of their EAME division based in London. He was Chief Operating Officer of AIM listed Offshore Hydrocarbon Mapping plc from 2007 until 2009.
He joined the Ikon team in October 2009 as Vice President Ikon EAME, responsible for developing Ikon’s business in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Russia/CIS and India. In April 2011, Steve became Ikon’s Chief Operating Officer, responsible for Ikon’s global operations.
Andrew is a Chartered Accountant with over 35 years experience in the oil industry. He started his career with Clyde Petroleum in 1977, as one of the first employees, and held a number of senior financial roles as the company grew from an unlisted entity with equity of £3 million to its peak with a listed market value in excess of £600 million. In addition to heading the Finance Department, he had a period as Company Secretary, held the posts of Regional Manager for both North and South America and was a Director of the UK, US and Dutch operating businesses.
After a period in the energy group at Chemical Bank he joined Intrepid Energy as Finance Director and Company Secretary in 1996. Intrepid was a private company, funded by US institutions to participate in the UK sector of the North Sea. The company grew from its equity funding of $250 million through acquisitions and its interest in the Buzzard Field discovery, culminating in a successful sales process in 2004/5 which generated over $1.1 billion after tax for its stakeholders.
After over-seeing the wind-up of Intrepid, Andrew ran his own consultancy company with a range of clients in the energy sector requiring assistance on corporate and tax matters. He worked with Ikon for some months before accepting the role of Finance Director in April 2008.
Andrew has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Strathclyde and trained as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young in Glasgow, qualifying in 1976.
A petroleum engineer with 26 years experience in Geophysics, Petrophysics and Reservoir Engineering. The first 13 years were spent with Shell International in The Hague, Nigeria and London, during which time Michel made contributions to the interface between Petrophysics and Geophysics.
In May 1999 he became team leader Petrophysics/Petroacoustics at Ikoda Limited, working on a wide variety of projects. It is during this time that RokDoc - now one of Ikon Science's main products - was started. One of the co-founders of Ikon Science, he is now responsible for the incorporation of latest techniques and developments in the area of rock physics in the Ikon Science software portfolio.
Philip previously worked at TerraSpark Geosciences in Houston, Texas, as VP of Marketing and Product Strategy. Prior to that, Philip spent 10 years at Paradigm Geophysical, working in various roles including VP Marketing, VP Products and VP Technology.
He has contributed papers and articles to many industry publications. Prior assignments in his career include exploration prospect generation at Shell, Product Manager for Charisma at Schlumberger-Geco, Interpretation Systems Expert at Elf Aquitaine (now Total), founder of the Stratimagic product within CGG-Flagship and COO of Enigma Data Systems.
Philip holds a Master of Science in Geophysics and Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Geneva, Switzerland.
Professor Richard Swarbrick is a world-renowned expert in subsurface pressures. He is active in promoting the understanding of subsurface issues through radio and media appearances and is well known through his publications, standard petroleum exploration text books and global scale studies which have given him a worldwide profile.
After completing a First Class degree in Geology from Durham University UK and a PhD in Sedimentology and Tectonics at the University of Cambridge, Richard spent 10 years in international roles in the UK and Houston for Mobil Oil Inc. In 1989 he began teaching Petroleum Geology at Durham University, where he is still actively involved in research and teaching - leading to his Professorship in 2008. In 1997 he founded GeoPressure Technology, advising E&P companies on how to reduce the risks associated with drilling and assisting with important decisions around well-planning and geopressure petrophysical and geological interpretations. Between 1994 and 2001 he instigated and ran GeoPOP, the GEO sciences Project into OverPressure which was funded by 16 oil and gas companies.
GeoPressure Technology became part of the Ikon Science business in 2006 and Richard continued in the role of its managing director which he had held since its incorporation. He was appointed to the full board of Ikon Science in November 2010.
Murray Christie has over eighteen years experience working for a range of oil and gas exploration and service companies in the US, Canada and South America. Most recently he was Executive Vice President, Oil and Gas for Exova, where he was responsible for a division of more than 125 employees.
He spent five years with Geomodeling Technology Corp, initially as their Vice President in Houston, then as Chief Operating Officer, spearheading new software and services growth through strategic customer relationships worldwide.
During his seven year tenure with CogniSeis/Paradigm, he led the growth of interpretation, processing, visualization, reservoir modeling and quantitative services and technology throughout the Americas in various positions including President for Canada, Vice President for North America and Director of Reservoir Characterization Solutions.
David commenced his geological career with honours at Leicester University and subsequently Sheffield University in the UK. Initially employed as a biostratigrapher by Robertson Research, David moved over to the Far East in 1985 and became the regional Managing Director of Roberston's operations in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1988. In 1992 a move to Mincom, Australia's largest software developer saw David head-up the Petroleum Technology Division of Mincom, initially in Asia and subsequently the EAME from 1992 to 1999, developing a business around the company's flagship petrophysical product, GEOLOG. Following the acquisition of GEOLOG by Paradigm, David became Regional Vice President of the Asia Pacific Region for Paradigm and moved the regional HQ to Kuala Lumpur and opened multiple offices in India and Asia, making the Asia Pacific region the largest region within Paradigm. David worked as Asia Pacific Manager for the CSEM/MT acquisition and processing company OHM Surveys in 2007 before moving into the muticlient seismic business as the global head of sales for Searcher Seismic in Perth in 2008. David joined Ikon in the Kuala Lumpur regional HQ as Asia Pacific Vice President in October 2011 and continues to thrive on the challenge of growing Ikon's business in the Asia Pacific region.
Charlie graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Business Economics and Finance before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte. She started her career in industry as Financial Controller of ESPN and thoroughly enjoyed working in finance in a commercial setting. In 2008 Charlie took her first role in the oil/technology sector joining Ikon as Group Financial Controller.
Steve commenced his career as a geologist with a brief spell in the oil industry with Core Laboratories in both the North Sea and on shore in Hampshire. Following this he obtained a Masters Degree in Rock Mechanics and Excavation Engineering at the University of Newcastle.
Steve is also a Fellow of the Geological Society and a Chartered Geologist.
Steve then followed a career in the drilling industry spending the next 20 years firstly with Keller Colcrete, then with Exploration Associates and finally with Drilcorp. He was Contracts Manager at Exploration Associates and Drilcorp responsible for all commercial aspects of drilling covering a wide field of geotechnical work. He developed a particular expertise and knowledge in waterwell drilling both for water supply and ground source heating and cooling.
Most recently he was involved in Coal Mine Methane drilling producing gas for small power generators. Steve obtained a IWCF Surface BOP Drilling Supervisor Certificate prior to carrying out this work and to ensure safe working practices were introduced to the drilling programme. Some of these wells are now being used for power generation.
In August 2008, Steve joined GeoPressure as Operations Manager. Now as a member of the SMT his responsibilities will have emphasis on the commercial management of GeoPressure and he will continue to provide input to project based work.
Kester joined Ikon Science in 2004, as a geoscientist working on exploration, development and appraisal of assets, specialising particularly on rock physics and AVO, well ties, inversion, and quantitative seismic interpretation. Having graduated in Geology (MESci Honours) at the University of Liverpool, he then went on to complete the MSc Petroleum Geology (Commended, with Honours) at the University of Aberdeen.
In his time at Ikon Science, Kester has worked in a variety of different sedimentary basins throughout the world including India (KG), deep water Mediterranean, West Africa (Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon), Uganda (East African Rift), North Sea (Norwegian and UK), onshore/offshore Eastern Europe, Western Australia, GOM. For 18 months, Kester managed the Oilexco team in Teddington. During this time, Kester was actively involved in the operational aspects of exploration and appraisal drilling, providing drilling locations, well plans and geophysical support to the drilling team in Aberdeen.
He later went on to provide geophysical support for the field development of a number of Oilexco assets. He was directly involved in the discovery of the Sheryl oil and gas field (UKCS 21/23) and was also involved in other projects including Brenda (UKCS 15/25), Huntington (UKCS 22/14) and Shelley (UKCS 22/2) as well as a number of other oil and gas discoveries. Kester now manages a team of geoscientists working on exploration based rock property and inversion projects globally.
He contributes to the ongoing development and identification of software and service based products and has recently worked with emerging technologies such as non-linear inversion in the Ikon suite of software.
Denis has over 15 years of expertise in working on various aspects of software commercialisation, ranging from software research and development to project services work, client support, course development, team management, project management and strategic marketing. While working on his PhD in geotechnical engineering more than 20 years ago, he focused extensively on modelling the propagation of uncertainties through engineering designs in order to more efficiently quantify and manage risk. That expertise led over the years to the successful productisation of several state-of-the-art scientific software applications for the oil and gas industry, particularly in the areas of quantitative interpretation and geostatistical reservoir modelling. Denis has published widely in journals and conferences across the globe on topics ranging from case studies to analytical and conceptual discussions.
Denis is now Vice President of Global Development for Ikon where he is excited to bring his skills and experience to lead Ikon software to ever greater heights by listening to clients and delivering the right solutions to overcome their challenges.
Jerry has over 10 years experience in petroleum geomechanics. After completing a mathematics and computer science degree he undertook an honours degree in geophysics and then a PhD in geomechanics entitled "the determination and application of in situ stresses in petroleum exploration and production". During his PhD research he completed several consulting/research projects which led to further employment with Adelaide University working on additional consulting projects. Jerry is now a managing director of JRS Petroleum Research and is in charge of software development. He has experience in projects as diverse as wellbore stability, image-log interpretation, fracture stimulation, fault reactivation and CO2 sequestration and has worked in Brunei, Thailand, Indonesia, New Zealand and Australia.
An expert with 30 years of academia and industry experience in the fields of rock physics and seismic reservoir characterisation. He has carried out hundreds of rock physics and inversion projects throughout the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions. He has taught and mentored throughout these regions. He has published widely and presented at major conferences for EAGE, SEG, SPE and AAPG.
Mark has expertise in Rock physics, Deterministic and Geostatistical inversion and Seismic Reservoir Characterisation.
Scott Mildren completed his PhD entitled "the contemporary stress field of Australia's north west shelf and collision related tectonism" at the University of Adelaide in 1997 and took up a position as structural geologist with Z&S (Asia) Ltd. (now Baker Atlas Geoscience). At Z&S he interpreted resistivity and acoustic image data with application to in situ stresses and fracture characterisation. From 1999 until 2004 he was among the academic staff at the Australian School of Petroleum and the National Centre for Petroleum Geology and Geophysics researching various geomechanical related issues such as, fault and cap rock seal integrity, fractured reservoirs, wellbore stability and trap risking. He is currently a managing director of JRS Petroleum Research Pty Ltd providing geomechanical and image log services to the petroleum industry. Scott is a member of AAPG, ASEG, PESA and SPE.

Peter Dolan, a B.Sc. and PhD geology graduate (University College London-Carbonate sedimentology) , has been involved in international exploration for over 40 years; initially as an employee of Mobil, Ball & Collins (assimilated into Premier Oil) and then as a founder and director of JEBCO Seismic Ltd. He was subsequently a founder and director of Dolan & Associates, IKODA and Fusion Investments Limited; companies which spawned IKON Science, Troy Ikoda, (purchased by RPS plc), Virgo Exploration (now part of EnCore plc) and Fusion Oil & Gas.
Peter is an explorer and geologist. In addition to technical consulting for oil company clients of all sizes, he has advised a large number of financial institutions on mergers and acquisition activities, governments on the development of appropriate legislation as well as co-ordinated multi-disciplinary exploration teams. His geographic experience spans the Americas, Europe, Africa, Australia and Far East. Peter has lived and worked in Canada, Libya, Indonesia and the UK.
After 25 years of consulting, Peter reverted to a role in active exploration and became a foundation shareholder and the Chairman of Fusion Oil & Gas plc. He resigned from Fusion in March 2004 after it was taken over by Sterling Energy plc. He then collaborated with ex-Fusion colleagues to establish a new UK-registered company, Ophir Energy Company Limited which has successfully raised start-up capital and which is building a significant portfolio of assets principally in Africa.

Tom Hickey is Corporate Development Director of Petroceltic International Plc, an AIM-Listed oil and Gas exploration company active in the Mediterranean AND North Africa.
Tom was Chief Financial Officer and a director of Tullow Oil plc (Tullow) from 2000-08. During this time Tullow grew via a number of significant acquisitions including the US $570 million acquisition of Energy Africa in 2004 and the US $1.1 billion acquisition of Hardman Resources in 2007. Tullow also experienced considerable exploration success, leading to the establishment of important new oil provinces in Ghana and Uganda.
Prior to joining Tullow, Tom was an Associate Director of ABN AMRO Corporate Finance (Ireland) Limited, with responsibility for advising public and private companies in relation to equity fund raising, mergers and acquisitions, and related transactions.
A Commerce graduate of University College Dublin and a Fellow of the Irish Institute of Chartered Accountants, he is also a non-executive Director of PetroNeft Resources Plc, an AIM listed independent oil and gas company with assets in Western Siberia.
Henry Sallitt is co-head of FF&P Private Equity. He has a long experience both of the direct private equity industry and within a commercial environment.
Prior to joining FF&P Private Equity he was a Director of Quester, one of the largest technology investors in the UK. This followed eight years at AFA Systems plc, a company which he co-founded as a private equity investor in 1995. He joined AFA Systems full-time as CFO/COO in 1996 immediately prior to its IPO. From its foundation, Henry was part of a small team that drove the development of the group, both organically and by acquisition, into a significant supplier of application software to the wholesale banking and investment management industries with over 120 customers in more than twenty countries worldwide. This period included some of the most favourable trading conditions for financial software companies, but also some of the most challenging. His experience reflects the diversity of issues that these two states created. AFA was sold to Microgen plc in September 2004. Henry sits on the board of OKA Direct, OB10 and Ikon Science.
Prior to AFA Systems, Henry spent six years investing in technology companies with Top Technology Limited, managers of the Hambros Advanced Technology Trust family of funds, which is now part of IP Group plc. He qualified as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse.
Tony is Chief Financial Officer and a director or Volga Gas plc, an independent oil and gas exploration and production company active in Russia. He has had extensive experience with the independent the oil and gas industry for over 20 years as one of the leading equity analysts covering the sector during which time he was actively involved in the flotation and financing of several successful independent oil and gas companies. Prior to joining Volga Gas, he was head of oil and gas research for KBC Peel Hunt. He previously held positions with Investec Securities, The Bell Group International and Schroders.
He is a Member of the Securities Institute and of the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain. Angus McCoss is currently Exploration Director of Tullow Oil plc. He is a geologist with a BP sponsored PhD and, prior to joining Tullow in April 2006 as General Manager Exploration, he had 21 years of wide-ranging exploration experience, working primarily with Shell in Africa, Europe, China, South America and the Middle East.
He held a number of senior positions within Shell including Americas Regional Vice President Exploration and General Manager of Exploration in Nigeria. He is currently a non-executive Director of Ikon Science Limited and a member of the Advisory Board of the industry-backed Energy and Geoscience Institute of the University of Utah.
